Blue Penguins
#36 Do - see the tiny cute Blue Penguins (also known as kororā) at Pukekura. I made the most of another great Wild Dunedin Festival activity today, by popping along to a talk on using technology to track the Blue Penguins at the Royal Albatross Centre, followed by a tour to spot them as they come in from sea at dusk to their nests. Although my iPhone doesn't capture it well, they come so close (some were a metre away from the viewing platform) and so cute. They are the world's smallest penguin and survive around 7 years. In the 1980s there were approximately 24 penguins around Pukekura, and amazingly, with lots of care and attention, we now have around 500!
