Soldiers' Memorial Highcliff Road
#62 Do - on a rather chilly morning, the stormy clouds and freezing wind added to the experience of the 10 minute walk up to the Soldiers' Memorial off Highcliff Road. Stunning views of the harbour and the ocean which had almost blurred into the clouds. The monument, which can be seen from all over Dunedin, commemorates 51 men from the Peninsula who died in WW1. Very sad to learn that 5 families lost 2 sons and 2 families lost 3 sons. The monument was designed by Edward Walden and sculpted by Robert Hosie and sits on top of the hill known as Arthur's Seat, named after the hills in Edinburgh.
