Bike to Aramoana

#71 Do - bike ride to the white sand beach at Aramoana. On a sunny Sunday morning we headed out from Carey's Bay. Narrow and winding road but totally flat with great views, it was the perfect distance for a bike (with a basket) outing. A few keen road cyclists whizzed by, but otherwise it was a quiet road for a ride. Aramoana in Maori means pathway of the sea and was established in the 1880s by the Otago Harbour Board as a pilot station to navigate the mouth of the Otago Harbour. On a warm summer day, this beach is the best spot to read a book on the sand or on the park bench overlooking the beach for a few hours
