Puketapu's Summit
#76 Do - today I enjoyed the views from Puketapu's 343m summit in Palmerston. Through paddocks then a short, steep walk leading to amazing 360 degree views. Then I very unglamorously descended backwards down the slippery, steep trail clinging to rocks, tussock, grass, anything! Realising the skirt and gumboots with no grip were not the best idea (and read later that there is an easier route that goes around rather than straight up!) The monument on the peak was built in 1929 for Sir John McKenzie, a local politician and Minister of Lands 1891-1900.
