National Gallery of Victoria

#92 Do - I scooted along early this morning to the Van Gogh and the Seasons exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. The NGV was founded in 1861 and is Australia's oldest and largest art museum. Van Gogh and the Seasons was curated by Sjraar van Heugten, over ten years in the making, and is the largest exhibition of Vincent Van Gogh's work in Australia. It was wonderful to see and learn about his short life. This painting 'orchard bordered by cypresses' was completed in April 1888 in Arles, France. He was captivated by the blossom in spring, he worked so hard to paint the trees while in blossom he had to write to his brother Theo 'I have another new orchard for you - but for Christ's sake get the paint to me without delay. The season of orchards in blossom is so short'
