Ayers Shoe Repairs

#103 Buy - the brilliant craftsmanship available from Paul Ayers at Ayers Shoe Repairs. Today I collected my new (vintage find) boots from Paul, all set to go having had their lovely but slippery leather sole and heel replaced by a non-slip version. Very timely considering the treacherous ice out there today! Paul started at Ayers in 1975 as an apprentice with his father Richard, who had been in the trade for 34 years by that time. Paul still remembers biking around Dunedin to the many shoe stores on the vintage bicycle that hangs in the store and it's fun to see the 1930s Singer sewing machine in the window for shoe stitching. He offers a great service and has extended the life of many of my shoes, having his expert skills available makes investing in quality shoes so worthwhile. I'm hoping my new shiny boots count (perhaps they're not exactly what she initially envisaged!) as I love Marilyn Monroe's 'give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world'
