Cardrona Ski Field

#157 Do - last ski day of winter holiday involved tiny ski jump attempts at Cardrona ski field! Locally owned by Real Journeys, a family owned South Island business, Cardrona first opened in 1980. It was established by local couple John and Mary Lee who had an incredible vision for Cardrona Valley. Cardrona is brilliant for snow, sun, views and friendly staff. With the build up to the NZ Winter Games (25th Aug to 10th Sept) we saw some incredible athletes flying and twisting elegantly in the air over enormous jumps on skis. They make it look ridiculously easy, great to watch on the chairlift. So of course, I had to give it a go, starting small, I built up a little speed, and flew over this jump. My husband tells me I was airborne for at least 0.1 of a second! It was fun, but I think I have a long way to go before a somersault is involved...
