Cowell's Pavlova
#169 Eat - locally made Cowell's Genuine Pavlova and meringue! It all started in 1963 when Ron and Audrey Cowell opened Cowell's Coffee Shop in Stuart St in Dunedin. The menu included a pavlova that was perfected over time and became so popular a dedicated pavlova kitchen was opened in 1972 in Bath St. The sweet treat business expanded with Cowell's Genuine Pavlova kitchens opening in other places in New Zealand until Matthew (who owns the original Dunedin franchise) bought the other businesses and returned production to Dunedin. In the lead up to Christmas they make around 7000 pavlova a day! Wonderful to have an iconic Kiwi treat made right here in the city centre of Dunedin. My Dad is particularly fond of pavlova, so I have one set aside to share with him
