Olveston
#180 Do - A guided tour of Olveston, the historic family home of businessman Mr David Theomin that was gifted to the City of Dunedin in 1966 by his daughter Dorothy. Olveston (after a village near Bristol where Mr Theomin spent childhood holidays) was designed by Sir Ernest George in Jacobean-style and completed in 1906 with 35 rooms. In 1967 the home opened as a historic house museum offering guided tours, they also have many events for locals such as drawing classes, Edwardian High Tea, Edwardian garden games, yoga and an art collectors tour (there are over 250 original artworks in the home). Today I did a tour of the home with a very knowledgeable guide (thank you Vivienne), it was fascinating to see the original contents of the home, most were pieces from their overseas travels, and I especially loved the very elegant dining room and library with all the lovely old books.Â
