Government Track

#188 Do - a happy leap for being back in our amazing region! Came across this fantastic view on our return loop from the Government Track in the Waipori Valley this morning. A 30 minute drive from Dunedin to the start of the track, it was created in the 1860s as a passage to the central goldfields. We came across fallen trees, mud, creeks, stinging nettles (Urtica ferox also called Ongaonga - very nasty!) but stunning scenery through beech and mānuka forest. We jogged the 17km return loop slowly, took a right at the end of the track and returned via the Mill Creek Scenic Reserve (following the pylons) through cow paddocks, all up about 2.5 hours. Knackered but fun adventure. My friend is a great running buddy and excellent leap photographer (thank you Cathy!)
