The Otago Peninsula Trust
#195 Do - celebrate the Otago Peninsula Trust's 50th birthday by exploring Glenfalloch Gardens beautifully lit up at night. The Trust (New Zealand's first private charitable conservation trust) was formed in 1967 by the Dunedin Jaycees. This was a group of businessmen who saw the Otago Peninsula as an incredible asset for the city, with its wildlife, historical heritage and incredible scenery. The Trust was formed to protect, enhance and stimulate public interest in this special part of Otago. It has contributed significantly to Peninsula projects, including opening the Royal Albatross Centre in 1972. The Trust's first purchase was in 1969, when it bought Glenfalloch Garden. Tonight I headed along to the 50th celebration at Glenfalloch - the Golden Night Garden. Fun to explore the gardens at night and see the sculptures (made by local artists) lit up. One of my favourites was this one - Tree of Life by Philippa Wilson
