Open Doors by Rachel Sutton
#222 Do - check out Rachel Sutton's stunning artworks at the Queenstown Arts Centre. Her 'Open Doors' exhibition opens this Friday and runs until the 16th of November. Rachel grew up in Arrowtown and studied in Christchurch, then headed overseas and worked as a graphic artist in the textile industry. When she returned home 4 years ago, she entered the Edinburgh Realty Art competition through the Otago Art Society, which inspired to start creating her portraits. She uses a combination of charcoal and acrylic paint and is especially drawn to eyes, which I think she captures beautifully. I also love her portraits of children and her daughter features in one of her new exhibition pieces (she also does commissions). It was fun to go and see Rachel in her studio in Dunedin, she's so down to earth and lovely (also very camera shy!), and see where it all happens.
