John Wilson Ocean Drive
#226 Do - walk the John Wilson Ocean Drive for sun, views and a little botany! The coastal road that runs parallel to Saint Kilda beach is named after the Mayor of Dunedin from 1912 to 1913. It’s only about 1km along the road to the lookout and after 3pm, it is pedestrian only. I met another walker, David (almost 80 years old and an avid traveller) who had amazing knowledge of the plants growing along the way. I learnt about the purple Marshmallows, yellow Lupins, the luscious green Coprosma Robusta (a native also known as Karamu), Hebe and the vibrant pink African Daisies. Nice little seaside explore on a warm summery spring day 🏖
