Purakaunui Falls
#235 Do - Purakaunui Falls. As one of the most photographed waterfalls in New Zealand, and only a short road trip from Dunedin, I thought it would be worth checking out. It didn’t disappoint, even the 10 minute walk to the falls was beautiful. Through beech and podocarp forest, the Purakaunui River falls are a three-tiered cascading waterfall flowing towards the Pacific Ocean. In 1976 they even featured on a New Zealand postage stamp. On a wild, wet, windy day, the falls were spectacular as we did our road trip south. Love that I’m almost camouflaged in my wee pompom hat!
