Stone House Gardens Peonies

#239 Buy - Central Otago peonies. As we drove to Cromwell on Saturday, we passed many little local roadside businesses advertising peonies for sale. They thrive in Central Otago and are exported all over the world, apparently they love the sunshine and cold, hard frosts. So on our way home today, we stopped at the Stone House Gardens at Coal Creek and picked up a couple of beautiful bunches from local owners Maryanne and Rhys. Having only opened their cafe, gardens and fruit/flower stall 3 weeks ago (in what was an old packing shed), it was great to buy their locally grown flowers, eat one of their real fruit ice creams (with local fruit), and bring home a big piece of lumberjack cake made with Ettrick apples for dessert. A great stop on the outskirts of Roxburgh.
