Dunedin Airport

#252 Do - celebrate our cool little airport, Dunedin Airport. Fun, local and informative images cover the walls (how cute is the jaffa one). The museum in one corner has great information on where local moa were found, the geology of Dunedin, Gabby the albatross, Māori history of the region and the history of air travel in Dunedin. The original Otago Aero Club was built in 1927 next to the Kaikorai Stream estuary, but the swampy conditions meant it had to move to North Taieri (where it is today). First passenger air transport started in 1936, between Dunedin, Christchurch, Blenheim and Palmerston North. The airport at Momona was built in 1962 and meant Dunedin could be included on the main trunk route. A super easy and interesting airport. And what other airport has the scent of the local farms when you hop off the plane?!
