The Victoria Grove
#251 Do - Find the ‘The Victoria Grove’ in Jubilee Park. These beautiful old oaks were planted in 1897 by the mayor, councillors, town clerk and the city engineer as part of the procession in commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. A poem on the plaque (I wonder who wrote this): Thro’ the coming years we trust, when we are voiceless in the dust, Dunedin’s children brave and strong, will guard Victoria’s grove from wrong. A very early jog around Jubilee this murky morning was nice for some fresh air before a long journey. With lots of fluffy grass to lie down in, it’s a good picnic spot to return to in summer...
