#262 Do - stay in a small, independent, locally owned hotel. Altstadt Vienna is a restored 19th century former aristocrat's town house in the 7th District, an area with lots of little boutique stores and local residents. It opened in 1991 and has a fabulous collection of contemporary art on the walls. Bubbles with breakfast, tea and freshly baked cakes every afternoon and cute postcards that they send for you, it's great to find these little local gems.
