Hospital in the Rock in Budapest
#264 Do - Learn local history. Having arrived in Budapest, we headed to the Hospital in the Rock, an interesting way to walk through the history of the conflicts in Budapest when the hospital was used. Created in naturally formed caves under the Buda Castle in the 1930s, it was designed to treat 60 patients. During the Siege of Budapest in WW2 and in the 1956 uprising against the Soviet rule, it treated up to 600 patients. The funicular ride and walk to the museum and around Buda Castle was pretty amazing too.
