Chrystall’s Beach

#345 Do - Drive to see the sun rise on a rainy morning at Chrystall’s Beach on the Otago coast. Originally Akatore Beach, it was re-named after an early settler, Francis Chrystall. It’s the site of a shipwreck, a French ship called the Marguerite Mirabaud was bound for Tahiti in 1907 when it struck dense fog and was wrecked at the beach. Filled with coal and wine, the crew made it to safety, and after the crew had returned home, an auction was held on the beach for various salvaged goods. Very early this morning, in the rain, it was a beautiful spot (and I even saw the sun attempting to peek through!) 🌅
