Tunnel Beach Dunedin

#353 Do - Find the tunnel that leads to a secret Dunedin beach. Although it's not so secret these days, I love the history of Tunnel Beach. Apparently John Cargill, son of Captain William Cargill, commissioned the tunnel into the sandstone cliff in 1876-1877 as a gift to his daughters, so they could have their own private swimming beach. They lived on a farm 'Sea View' about 800m from the beach. Just a 15 minute drive from the city centre to the start of the track, it's a quick stride down to this rocky, beautiful, secluded beach.
