McKinlays of Dunedin

#362 Do - Celebrate McKinlays of Dunedin. Locally owned by Graeme and David McKinlay, they are the 5th generation to handcraft high quality footwear in Dunedin. Robert McKinlay arrived in Dunedin in 1870 from Scotland and starting manufacturing boots and shoes for a growing population almost 140 years ago, in 1879. You can step into the factory store in South Dunedin where between 130 and 160 pairs of shoes are made every day, peer through the glass and observe the production process, and see the craftsmanship of the final product. I especially love the beautiful children's shoes, and hearing from friends that one pair of McKinlay's boots have been through 5 children within the extended family. Amazing quality and love that they're still made right here in Dunedin.
