That Wanaka Tree

#Do - An early morning jog along the Wanaka lakefront, a stunning time of the day to see #thatwanakatree as I went by. The crooked willow has become a local icon, especially at dawn and dusk when crowds gather with tripods. Fun to learn that it was originally a ‘hacked off branch from nearby willows’ that was being used as a fence post to keep sheep from wandering, around 80 years ago. It grew slowly and is now thought to be NZ’s most photogenic tree (it might also have something to do with the backdrop...)! So I couldn’t help but take a photo when I went past a couple of weeks ago at sunrise 🌅
