The Exchange
#Do - A jog through the city centre on sunrise this morning. This is The Exchange - where there was once an incredible old building designed by William Mason (of Mason and Wales) and completed in 1868 to be the Dunedin Post Office. But instead, as it was considered too elaborate, it was used as the Otago Museum, then the original site of the Otago University, then as a bank, and finally it was the Dunedin Stock Exchange. The Exchange Building was demolished in the 1960s, which apparently triggered a change in local attitudes regarding the importance of our heritage buildings. The area is still known as The Exchange, a great reminder of the beautiful building that was once there.
