#Do - Support our local, independent bookstores. I found this cute quote on the steps of the Shakespeare and Company bookshop in Paris and loved learning that there are almost 700 bookstores in the city, giving a ratio of bookstores to people of about 1:3000. For a city that loves to read, there was even a law passed in 1981 (Lang Law after Jack Lang - the Minister of Culture at the time) to support independent bookshops. Shakespeare and Co. is a fascinating store to pop into, but it was hectic with people like me.... for a quieter spot, apparently you’re best to head for The Abbey Bookshop around the corner.Â
