Find the daffodil fields and the ruins of the Black Horse Brewery at Weatherston, near Lawrence. I recently popped in and strolled the 25 acre site where thousands of daffodil bulbs were planted from 1895. Brewery owner, Benjamin Hart was an enthusiastic gardener and imported bulbs from as far away as the Netherlands. The brewery closed in 1923 but still people were drawn to the flowers, with special trains put on from Dunedin and more than 1500 people journeying to see them in 1937. Open until 14th October, it's fun to explore the trails around this historic site.Â
