A frosty morning on our farm in Central Otago where we tend to our pinot noir vines, a small flock of sheep and a significant population of rabbits. Friday night was the longest night of frost fighting in the last decade. To protect the fruit in the district, there were wind machines and helicopters rumbling through the night. For us, water sprayed over the vines forms an icy cocoon around the new spring growth which, surprisingly, protects it. The scene on sunrise was quite spectacular.
