In Toitū today I was lucky to hear Dougall Mackay pipe his way through the galleries to mark Saint Andrew’s Day, acknowledging our city’s Scottish heritage. November the 30th was once a bank holiday in Dunedin, celebrated with railway excursions, picnics, horse racing, dinners and dancing. As I read about early Scottish settlers, it was a treat to hear the bagpipes being played, in particular, loved the wee bit of Flower of Scotland.
