A loop track on the Otago Peninsula on Hereweke/Harbour Cone after Christmas lunch. I headed down Camp Road, along Broad Bay and back up through farm land from Bacon Street. I was interested to learn that in 2008, the Dunedin City Council bought this 328ha block of land. It’s now managed by a charitable trust and has a series of trails, native plantings and leased farm land with lovely old stone walls. I found this tunnel of old trees just off Bacon Steet. Not long after this, I took what appeared to be the trail, through a collection of new native plantings, got quite lost, quite muddy and ended up guesstimating my way back up through farm paddocks to the car on Camp Road (which is not exactly what you’re meant to do...opps)
