Local Wildlife - Bison

Local wildlife - when a herd of wild bison blocked the road in Yellowstone National Park yesterday. Bison numbers in North America were thought to have once been in the millions, but due to hunting and habitat loss, their numbers dropped to just over 1000 in 1889. In Yellowstone they were down to just 23. With management and protection, the North American population is now around 500,000, with around 4500 in Yellowstone National Park. We were a bit lucky to see these enormous animals (and some calves) up so close
