Riding the chairlift at Bridger Bowl on a snowy, still morning. Quiet, no lift queues, friendly locals keen to chat - mostly (it seemed) engineering students skipping class and a boss who told us he had an 8 inch fresh snow rule when staff could take the day off - nice! Bridger is a community owned, not-for-profit ski field about 30 mins from Bozeman. It was due to the efforts of a group of volunteer ski enthusiasts that the first lift opened in 1955. Although the lifts were not high speed, the snow was great and the field had a fun, local feel, similar to our mountains in New Zealand - with a few more trees. Â
