Nakina the Bear

We ‘met’ another local during our trip...a bear called Nakina. She’s one of seven rescued bears at the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Centre in West Yellowstone. The centre offered tips on bear encounters including: stay calm, don’t run, if it approaches you, stand your ground, let it know you’re human by speaking to the bear in a calm voice and if you do get attacked, fight back. Hmmm, I’m not sure these tips are totally in line with natural instinct! Fascinating to see a bear so close, but also a nice reminder of how lucky we are in New Zealand to not have to worry about these while out and about
