A road trip to Invercargill meant an opportunity for a quick explore this morning - the Estuary Walkway. Almost a 5km loop from the historic Stead St Wharf around Pleasure Bay Lagoon, and along the Roger Sutton boardwalk. Native plantings, so many birds and the morning light was so pretty. Interesting to learn that some of the reclaimed land in the area was used as the city rubbish dump until it closed in 2004. But in 1994, a big push to restore the coastal environment occurred, native plants went in and the area was developed with walking tracks, and the project continues.Â
