Tepid Baths
Lockdown loop #8
I headed out for an early morning jog and discovered an interesting little reminder of the Tepid Baths in Moray Place, the main aquatic facility in Dunedin from 1914 to 1964. Apparently children used to line up outside on Moray Place to go for a swim on a Saturday afternoon. They would use their pennies to make holes in the Oamaru stone on the Security building next door as they waited to enter. A perspex cover over these coin marks was a collaboration between poet Peter Olds and sculpture Peter Nicholls and has permanently saved this little piece of history.
