The Toitū Stream
Lockdown loops #13
Today was mostly about making fluffies…
We did a couple of laps around City Rise, and one was cut slightly short when Jack decided he wanted to attempt his first ‘river’ crossing in Jubilee Park, ending in one very wet foot. Jack’s foot entered the Toitū stream, the stream that runs under Dunedin. Flowing from the hill suburbs, it once ran down the gully of Maclaggan Street, crossed Princes Street and entered the harbour. The stream was ‘channelled underground by the early settlers’ by 1858 and ‘largely forgotten’. But you can still find it, and dip your foot into it, in Jubilee Park.
